Congratulations to the 2019 Senior Community Impact Award Winners: AZ Representative, Joanne Osborne & Buckeye Mayor, Jackie Meck. These incredible individuals will be honored at the Meals of Joy Masquerade Gala event held on Saturday, October 12, 2019.

AZ Representative

Joanne is a fourth generation Arizonan, Christian Community Leader, successful business owner and serving her first term in the Arizona House of Representatives from Legislative District 13 where she is Vice-Chairwoman of the Military & Veterans Affairs Subcommittee and serves on the Land & Agriculture and Ways & Means Subcommittees. She is a former Goodyear City Councilmember, serving the city for 11 years including two years as Vice Mayor.

Joanne has been recognized for her hard work and dedication to various causes in the West Valley including:

• Mentored teens and headed the YMCA’s Teen Action Council earning the Best of the West Awards “Leadership of an Organization” category from Westmarc.

• Past Vice President of the Homeless Youth Connection Board of Directors.

• Recipient of Leadership West’s “Outstanding Business Leader of the Year” award in 2016.

* Past YMCA Board Member

* Past Chairwoman of MAG’s Continuum of Care on Homelessness and of Human Services

Joanne and her husband Ken have owned Osborne Jewelers since 1990 and are a staple in the West Valley business community. Joanne served as the Chairman of the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Marketing Committee in 2003 and 2004 and was named the "Outstanding Chamber Member of the Year" in 2003. Joanne and her husband have four children and three grandchildren.

Buckeye Mayor

Jackie A. Meck is the Mayor of the city of Buckeye. He is a Buckeye native, and previously served as “town” mayor from 1973 to 1975 and as a member of the town council from 1968 to 1975. He was re-elected to his third 4-year term as Mayor of the city of Buckeye in 2016.

Meck is passionate about Buckeye, the West Valley and all of Arizona. He is currently the Past-Chairman of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council, the Past-Chairman of the MAG Regional Council Executive Committee, Chairman of the MAG Economic Development Committee, and a Member of the MAG Transportation Policy Committee.

He is also a member of the Gila River’s El Rio Restoration Project Executive Committee, Treasurer for the Interstate-11 Coalition, Co-Chair of the White Tank Conservancy Trust, a member of the Floodplain Use Permits for Sand And Gravel Stakeholder Review Committee, and is on Board of Trustees for the Abrazo Health (West Valley Hospital).

Previously, Mayor Meck also served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), WESTMARC, Valley Metro RPTA, past president of the Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce and is the retired general manager of the Buckeye Water Conservation and Drainage District.

In addition, Meck is past chairman of the town’s Pioneer Days Celebration and is a member of the Buckeye Elks, Rotary of Verrado, Lions Club, Buckeye Valley Museum, West Valley Fine Arts, Phoenix Art Museum and Heard Museum.

Mayor Meck and his wife of 57 years, Verlyne, have three grown children and four grandchildren.
